In 2017, Lucille Carr-Kaffashan received a Bistro Award for her outstanding show celebrating 21st century female singer-songwriters. In keeping with gender equality, her new show, How the Light Gets In, features the work of male singer-songwriters who “give voice to the feelings and experiences that men are typically discouraged from expressing in our society.” Among the artists represented are Billy Joel, John Legend, Bruce Springsteen, Leonard Cohen, and Darius Rucker. She is supported by the same creative team that did such excellent work on her last show: director David Hilder, music director Jeff Cubeta on piano, Sean Harkness on guitar, and Matt Scharfglass on bass. You may never hear a more moving and heartfelt rendition of Billy Joel’s “And So It Goes” —to cite just one highlight. Once again, she and her team have given us an uncommonly strong show.
