Metropolitan Room

Remaining performances: Mondays  April 24, May 8; 7:00 pm

Winner of Last year’s MetroStar Talent Challenge, David Baida makes his solo cabaret debut in “Unexpected Surprise,” a program of songs from a variety of genres, sprinkled with anecdotes. With a solid background in theatre (he’s currently in On Your Feet on Broadway, and he’s an award winner for his work in In the Heights), he proved during the MetroStar competition that he can also captivate cabaret audiences. Not only does he sing beautifully, he gives his interpretations an interesting slant and his peronality and presence are immensely appealing. No, strike “appealing”–he’s downright lovable. Musical director Yasuhiko Fukuoka accompanies on the piano; Adolpho Blaire directed.

Opening for Baida on alternate evenings will be the 1st and 2nd runners-up of the competition, Wendy Scherl and April Leonhard.
